Country Currency
Currency the Lek (plural Lekė). Notes are in denominations of 5,000, 500, 200, 100 Lekė. Coins are in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 Lekė. Seafarers should be aware that the majority of Albanians refer to currency in terms of the old value system. This means that one thousand Lek may mean one hundred Lekė.
 

Currency Restrictions
The import and export of local currency is prohibited. Foreign currency must be declared on arrival. The export of foreign currency is limited to US$5,000, or the amount declared. Money can be changed in the banks or legally in the open market.

Main Religions
Islam, Albanian Orthodox and Roman Catholic. 

Languages Spoken
Albanian; Greek is widely spoken in the south. Many also speak Italian and English.
 

Customs Allowance
and Regulations
Visas are required for citizens of most countries and are issued on arrival for US$10.00.
 

Health Information
Yellow Fever certificate is required for all travellers over one years of age from infected areas. Immunication against Poliomyelitis, Hepatitis A and Tetanus is recommended. Rabies is present. 

What to Wear
Dress is generally informal, but women are expected to dress modestly.
 

Countrywide Communications
International Direct Dialling is available in major towns.
Mobile phone providers – AMC and Vodafone Albania. Coverage is limited to main towns and coastal areas.
All mail to and from Albania is subject to delays. Letters can be sent recorded delivery to avoid loss. There are DHL offices in Tirana and Durres, offering services between Albania and other countries. The postal and telecommunications systems are undergoing extensive modernisation. Post Office hours: Mon-Fri 07.00-14.00 and Sat 08.00-13.00.
