Area Climate
Temperatures generally range from about 23ºC in the winter to about 30ºC in the summer. Annual rainfall averages only 114.3, and the northeast trade winds are nearly constant, flagging only in September. Low humidity year-round.

There are several general practitioners and specialists on the island, a hospital and a private clinic. Recompression chambers are available by air ambulance at nearby Saba and in St. Thomas. Pharmaceutical services are widely available.

There are two shopping areas close to the pier.

AIRPORT: VC Bird International airport is 8kms NE of St John’s
TAXIS: Taxi drivers are also tour guides.
The fare to the airport from St John’s is about US$7 (2006)
(Departure Tax: US$20)
BUSES: Local buses run 05.30-18.00 to St John’s and villages. There is no service to the airport.
RENTAL CARS: There are quite a few rental agencies on the island. The rates are US$40-50 per day (2006).
Drivers require valid licence from their own country or International Licence in addition to permit/licence to drive in Antigua. Driving is on the left hand side.
FERRIES:Barbuda Express travels between St John’s and Berbuda operates 5 days a week. EC$80 one way; ED$140 return

CRUISE LINES: Many cruise lines call in with tourists.
Some of these are Norwegian Cruises, P&O, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Carnival, Cunard, etc.

Tourist Information
Antigua & Barbuda are relatively crime free, but exercise normal precautions; i.e. don't leave valuables unattended in rental cars or on the beach.
Tipping for services - 10-15% depending on the service. Some restaurants & hotels will automatically add a 10% gratuity. If in doubt, just ask.
Give porters and bellhops 50 cents per bag, taxi drivers 10-15% of the fare.
Antigua & Barbuda has a room tax of 8.5% and service charge of 10% (in lieu of tipping)
Top attractions include Nelson’s Dockyard, Shirley Heights, Betty’s Hope, St. John’s Cathedral, Fig Tree Drive, Museum of Antigua and Berbuda, Devil’s Bridge and Frigate Bird Sanctuary (Barbuda).
