AIRPORT: Wynyard - Burnie (BWT) Airport: Location: 500m south of Wynyard town centre & 14 km WNW of Burnie. Note: Although this airport is within the city limits of Wynyard, it is officially known as Burnie Airport. Most locals refer to it as Wynyard Airport.
Daily flights to Melbourne (1 hour) by Regional Express. Fare A$105 single. Reservations: Telephone 13 17 13 or website: www.regionalexpress.com.au. International flights from Melbourne (Departure Tax A$ 27.)
ON FOOT: You can walk to the main street in Wynyard in about 10-15 mins.
BY ROAD: To Burnie 18 km (20 mins). To Smithton 68 km.
BY TAXI: To Burnie 30 mins. Burnie/Wynyard Taxis (03) 6431 2199.
BY BUS: Burnie Airbus (0439 322 466) meets most flights but reservations are recommended. Cost A$30 one way to Burnie, but an excess may be charged for very early flights. Get tickets from the driver. Local buses run from nearby Wynyard town centre (Jackson St) and run to Burnie via Seabrook, Somerset & Cooee several times a day Mon-Fri only. Tel 132 201. Metro Tasmania provides transport around the city and suburbs.
